The World is Theirs
May 18th, 2010Had a chance a couple of Fridays ago to check out the new Oasis. Apparently the ghost of Tony Montana got the rebuild contract because they have made some absolutely breathtaking additions to the once relatively austere original. On the whole, the architectural design scheme is centered on the idea that “brick don’t burn, baby!” It seems as if several masons lodges worth of stone workers got together and created a cliffside fortress designed to withstand either a German Panzer attack or a full scale nuclear apocalypse. One thing is certain: No carelessly discarded cigarette butt from a tipsy sorority girl is going to bring this joint down – and that’s the idea I guess. As an added bonus however, you get some really spectacular sculptures adorning the entrance. Of particular note was the stone homage to Fingerpistol (and we’ve never even played the Oasis! The Fingerpistol, however, is featured in a state of discharge, which may be some sort of metaphor for the Oasis having already shot its silver bullet. Perhaps the most inspired piece was the sculpture of the native American chieftess (because she is wearing a full eagle feather headdress, duh) sporting a revealing one-piece bathing suit and erotically straddling a…WTF?…bald eagle. Curiously, she too is popping off a couple of rounds with her own lackadaisical rendition of a fingerpistol. IF YOU LOVE US SO MUCH, OASIS, WHY DON’T YOU EVER CALL? Truly this sculpture was so magnificent it made me want to either A. Steal it for use as yard art, or B. Peel off my clothes and dry hump it in broad daylight. Hopefully they will put some decks on the east side of the building just so people can view this masterpiece. Y’all let me know if that ever happens and I will go have some $10 margs with you.

Fingerpistol’s “Young and Beautiful” Reviewed in Texas Music Magazine!
August 24th, 2009Fingerpistol’s latest CD, “Young and Beautiful” was reviewed in the summer issue of Texas Music Magazine. If you’re not familiar with TMM, here is a description from it’s website:
Texas Music reaches music fans in 48 states and 12 countries via subscriptions. It is available on newsstands in 43 states and more than 2,500 locations including Hastings Records, Books-A-Million, Borders Books & Music, Wal-Mart, Albertson’s H-E-B, Kroger and Randall’s.
OK, now here’s the review:
Hints of Austin’s new-sincerity sound still echo through Fingerpistol, which reminds one at times of ’90′s rockers the BoDeans, could slot into the Texas/Red Dirt scene on other numbers like “Still in Texas” and even stomps up a Waylon-style romp on “Get Back Up”. Singer-songwriter Dan Hardick delivers better than solid songs with an earnest baritone on a CD that’s the epitome of likable.
Not too shabby…
